Our planet is facing one of the greatest threats to the oceans and marine life which stems from the climate change crisis. On the occasion of the World Ocean Day, which falls on June 8 each year, Cut and Curl Co., Ltd. (“Cut & Curl” or the “Company”) recognizes the importance of conserving the Thai seas. The Company hence took this opportunity to organize a beach cleanup activity at Patong Beach, Phuket, to maintain the cleanliness of the Thai coastline.
Research from the Environmental Science & Technology journal has indicated that, in sea with depths of over 100 meters, microplastic waste accumulates on the sea floor. In fact, since 2000, the amount of accumulated microplastic waste has tripled over the past 20 years and continues to increase. The study estimates that there are up to 14 million tons of microplastic waste on the ocean floor, highlighting the severe issue of plastic waste. Cut & Curl aims to raise awareness about waste on the coastline and encourages everyone to stop littering in public places, especially along coastlines and water sources.
On World Ocean Day 2024, Cut & Curl engages in beach cleanup activity at Patong Beach, Phuket, on 12 June this year. 32 volunteers from Cut & Curl participated and collected trash along the beach over 2 kilometers from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM. We have collected various waste, including plastic bags, plastic cups, foam cups, tissue paper, glass bottles, and bottle caps, totaling over 40 kilograms of trash.
The Company believes that our beach cleanup activity at Patong Beach will help conserve the Thai seas and raise awareness among our staff about the importance of waste separation, proper waste disposal, and reducing waste by thinking before using, reusing, and choosing environmentally friendly products.
Cut & Curl promotes and advocates for environmental sustainability. We operate in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote well-being and sustainability for people, communities, the environment, and the planet.
